The Arizona city of Phoenix was the location of Sportsmans Park racetrack in the 1940s. A track of a similar name existed in Chicago at one time. The Arizona version was built on a 160 acre site between Osborn Road and Seventh Avenue; work started in the late 1930s. The track opened its gates for the first time in 1943, offering a programme of harness racing administered by the Arizona Harness Racing Association. Occasionally quarter horse racing supplemented the programme, with racing continuing for just 7 years until the track closed in 1950 and made way for Ingleside Turf Club Track which opened shortly afterwards.
